Foam Rolling

On the Weekly Slice #16 I wanted to gather some great info on why to Foam Roll and how to Foam Roll. I also mention my current self-massage tools that I like.

Based on my own experience I can attest to the fact that it’s impossible to roll everything everyday. It is just not feasible and nobody has time for that! So from my own learning journey I have learned that the best approach is to do a little bit every day and focus on the muscles that you are about to use or that you used that day depending on if you roll in the morning or at night.

In an ideal world, I would roll a bit in the morning and a bit a night but I don’t always have the time or energy. In the least I try to roll before I play or workout and at night I will grab a rilling stick or ball and do my calves. If I am less busy and feeling particularly stiff I’ll roll in the morning or at random times throughout the day.

The trick is to spread it out and not try to do every possible muscle group in one go. You’d be rolling for hours!

Another piece of advice is to listen to your body. Look at you mobility- a deep squat and my posture is usually good feedback for me on how my body is doing that day.

This is a playlist that is really good if you don’t know where to start. One of the videos is titled “What does the foam roller do?”, Quad rolling, etc. Hope you enjoy and start adding some regular maintenance to your muscles. You will feel instant relief of pressure in your muscles and better mobility.
